Optometrists who use a Heidelberg OCT now have the option to upgrade to the newest version of the device’s Anterion platform to beef up their anterior segment assessments. The system now has two additional modules particularly useful to ODs—called the Cornea app and the Metrics app—as well as a third for cataract surgery planning.

According to a company press release, the Cornea app combines OCT imaging, tomography maps and wavefront analysis to give clinicians a more complete picture of a patient’s corneal geometry. It can also provide both curvature and elevation maps of the anterior and posterior corneal surfaces. Additionally, doctors can toggle between multiple display options, such as single or multi-view, to allow for comparison of both eyes, as well as a follow-up layout with progression analysis. Measurement of the pupil and corneal diameter can also be completed through an infrared camera image within the app.
The Metrics app helps organize and illustrate data from OCT images, with the anterior chamber displayed in a radial view, Heidelberg says. To customize anterior segment assessment for individual patients, the module offers clinicians the option to determine predefined angle parameters and perform free-hand measurements. In addition to more commonly used parameters (anterior chamber depth, ACA, AOD, TISA, ACA distance, spur-to-spur distance, central corneal thickness and white-to-white), the Metrics app can also provide data on anterior chamber volume, lens thickness and vault.
More suited for ophthalmologist use, the Cataract app can aid in surgical planning and intraocular lens selection by combining corneal measurements with monofocal and toric IOL calculators.
The upgradeable platform is now available to eyecare providers in the US, Heidelberg says. For more information, go to https://business-lounge.heidelbergengineering.com/us.
