Toy-related injuries actually increased since last year, according to a recent report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. In 2009, close to 186,000 injuries required emergency room treatment for children ages 15 and younger, compared with approximately 173,000 in 2008. Almost half of those injuries were to children younger than five years old.
The majority of injuries—mostly lacerations, abrasions and contusions—were to the head and face, including the eyes.
