Contact Lens Material Available in Large Diameter Button
The Paragon HDS 100 (Paflufocon D) lens material, from Paragon Vision Sciences, is now available in large diameter buttons to authorized Paragon Laboratories. (To find the authorized Paragon laboratory in your state, go to www.paragonvision.com/master_list2.asp.)
The large diameter buttons are 14mm in size and come ready for immediate placement within the collet (the device that holds the button in place during the manufacturing process). Because the button is collet-ready, it requires less modification during the manufacturing process, which increases precision manufacturing, the company says.
The Paragon HDS 100 has an ISO/ANSI Dk of 100 and has been FDA approved for corneal reshaping daily wear and up to seven days of continuous wear. It also features a high index of refraction at 1.442 and a low specific gravity of 1.10, due to minimal fluorine content.

ReZoom, from Advanced Medical Optics (AMO), is a second-generation refractive multifocal hydrophobic acrylic IOL for hyperopic cataract patients. A total of 92% of patients implanted with a ReZoom IOL never or only occasionally wear spectacles, the company says.
The IOL, which is 13mm in size, offers a +3.5D add power at its plane, +2.8D near add power at the corneal plane, a power range of 6.0 to 30.0D (in 0.5D steps) and a 1.47 index of refraction. Another feature is Balanced View Opticsa patented design that distributes light over five optical zones, providing distance, intermediate and near vision to reduce the wearers dependence on spectacles, Advanced Medical Optics says. This design feature also distributes the appropriate amount of light needed for good vision when the wearer is faced with a range of light conditions, the company says.
