An optometrist in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., has apparently done a first: Brian ODonnell, O.D., put his practice up for sale on eBay.

The asking price: $450,000. This business includes over $200,000 worth of equipment, supplies and related products! This does not even account for the value of the entire base of current patients that frequent this facility, the Web page says.

Dr. ODonnell has also announced his campaign to run for state representative. His willingness to sell the practice demonstrates his commitment to public service, he said to Wilkes-Barres Citizens Voice newspaper. The idea to put the practice on eBay came from Dr. ODonnells patients, who told him of their positive experiences in using the online auction site. At press time, the practice was still available.
