In the United States, approximately 21% of people with diabetes, or 8 million individuals, have diabetic retinopathy (DM). Only about 5.8 million of these are diagnosed. Otf these 8 million people, about 2.3 million have diabetic macular edema (DME), 1.5 million have diabetic macular edema (DME), 1.5 million are diagnosed and 750,000 have clinically significant macular edema (CSME). Of those with CSME, only about 400,000 are receiving treatment for DME.
