After acquisitions of ophthalmology practices, a recent analysis noted an increase of nearly one optometrist per clinic and a 24% expansion in patient volume by ODs.
The updates “don’t reflect real-world marketplace conditions,” failing to caution consumers against online retailers or consider how small business optometry practices may be affected.
The bill, which would allow ODs to prescribe oral steroids, administer injectables and remove growths around the eyelids, awaits the Governor’s signature.
