Want to get a better read on intraocular pressure? Consider retrofitting your tonometer with a correcting applanation tonometry surface (CATS) prism, says the manufacturer, CATS Tonometer of Arizona. The new prism compensates for corneal biomechanics (thickness, rigidity, curvature) and tear film characteristics not accounted for in conventional Goldmann tonometry.

The CATS prism is longer and differently shaped than a GAT one, using a central concavity instead of a flat surface at the applanation tip. The result, according to the company, is a 94% improved IOP accuracy for the majority of the population.
