Libby Little, wife of slain optometrist Tom Little, was honored with a Medal of Freedom that she received on behalf of her husband during a white house ceremony.
“For 30 years, amid invasion and civil war, the terror of the Taliban, the spread of insurgency, he and his wife Libby helped bring Afghans, literally, the miracle of sight,” said President Obama as he presented Mrs. Little with the nation’s highest civilian award.
Dr. Little was brutally murdered on August 6, 2010 by the Taliban along with nine other aid workers returning from a humanitarian mission.
Since the 1970s, Dr. Little, his wife and three daughters had lived in Afghanistan, providing vision care to people in need through the Noor program (“light” in Persian).
