Extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF) designs are coming to the unique hybrid contact lens platform that’s synonymous with SynergEyes. The California-based maker of gas permeable lenses with a soft lens skirt recently partnered with Australia’s Brien Holden Vision Institute to bring the latter’s EDOF design expertise to its product line, SynergEyes announced today.
An EDOF lens gradually adjusts power across the optic zone to harness, rather than eliminate, the effects of higher-order aberrations, SynergEyes says. The goal, according to the company, is to “achieve a balanced visual performance designed to satisfy presbyopes with low, medium and high-add requirements.” Other new designs in the works will target myopia, particularly during its early development, according to a company release.
No timetable has been announced yet about when the collaboration might yield commercial products.
