The immediacy of the research presented on the following pages is stunningno decades-long pipeline here. Rather, the following selection of abstracts introduces therapies and management techniques that are changing patients lives today.

Cornea. Infection control is one of the main current topics when it comes to the cornea and contact lens wear. Researchers present findings on combination therapies, kill rates and transplant techniques. Findings in the field of dry eye also point to more effective indicators and therapies.

Retina. The genetics of age-related macular degeneration are explored this year, from a predisposition for the disease itself to a predisposition to better success with therapy. Also, researchers present their results on novel uses of several mainstream drugs.

Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Cataractogenesis is feared by many patients. This years research presents indicators of formation likelihood and the benefits of patient education. Glaucoma. The value of patient education and compliance are unquestionable, and this years research further illustrates that fact.
