Automatic Lensmeter
The LM-1000, from Marco, is an automatic lensmeter that uses Hartmann-Shack technology to read 108 points on a lens, allowing the instrument to instantly determine the add power of a progressive lens and thus, save the practitioner time. Additional features of the LM-1000 include:
A new ergonomic design that is compact and includes a tiltable monitor, which the company says enables easy viewing for practitioners who are standing or sitting.
Prism lens measurements up to 20.00D.

Multifocal Line
Besides its Frequency 55 Multifocal, CooperVision has added four multifocal contact lens products to create what the company calls its Total Multifocal Solution portfolio:
The Proclear Compatible Multifocal, a daily wear lens designed for emerging and advanced presbyopes. The lens is made of omafilcon A and comes in a base curve of 8.7mm, sphere powers of +4.00D to 6.00D (0.25D steps) and add powers of +1.00D to +2.50D (0.50D steps). It has a monthly wear schedule and is available in a six-pack.
The UltraVue 2000 Multifocal, a conventional wear lens for patients with high levels of presbyopia. The lens is made of hioxifilcon B and comes in base curves of 8.3, 8.6 and 8.9mm; sphere powers of +20.00D to 20.00D (0.25D steps); and add powers of +1.00D to +4.00D (0.25D steps). The replacement schedule is once a year, as the item comes in a single vial.
The UltraVue 2000 Multifocal Options lens has the same base curves and sphere powers as the UltraVue 2000 multifocal lens. Options offers a quarterly replacement cycle, is available in single vials and comes in a three-pack.
The UltraVue 2000 Multifocal Toric, a conventional wear lens for astigmatic presbyopes. The lens is made of hioxifilcon B, is available in base curves of 8.3, 8.6 and 8.9mm; cylinder powers of 0.75D to 6.00D (0.25D steps); sphere powers of +20.00D to 20.00D (0.25D steps); and add powers of +1.00D to +4.00D (0.25D steps). It is available in single vials. This lens has the same replacement schedule as the UltraVue 2000 multifocal.
All of the Total Multifocal Solution lenses use the Balanced Progressive Technology design of a D (dominant) and N (non-dominant) lens geometry which provides enhanced binocular vision and stereopsis through all multifocal product families and parameter ranges, the company says. Orthokeratology Lenses Approved
Bausch & Lomb received FDA approval for its Vision Shaping Treatment (VST), a series of four orthokeratology lenses, in December. Presently, these designs are the Euclid Emerald Design, BE Design, DreamLens and Contex OK. The lenses all are fabricated in Boston Equalens II high-Dk material.
The lenses will be marketed in the United States to VST-certified practitioners through a select group of authorized Boston manufacturers. (O.D.s must become certified in VST and the individual designs before they can order these products.)
