Varilux Physio and Varilux Physio 360, two new progressive lenses from Essilor of America, feature a patented new design and manufacturing process known as W.A.V.E. Technology. W.A.V.E., which stands for Wavefront Advanced Vision Enhancement, employs the wavefront technology used in laser surgery to detect and eliminate many surface distortions, the company says. The technology uses patented and proprietary software in both lens designs to scan the entire surface of the lens and calculate the targeted optical function for each direction of gaze.
Varilux Physio features a front-side design in which digital surfacing is used to create the lens molds. This lens design offers controlled distance aberrations and a wide intermediate field of vision, the company says.
In Varilux Physio 360, W.A.V.E. Technology is applied to the front and back of the lens with 360 digital surfacing. This lessens distortions and preserves and enhances the effectiveness of the front design, the company says.
