Taprenepag, an EP2 receptor agonist, demonstrated comparable IOP-lowering efficacy to that of the F2-alpha agonist latanoprost (Xalatan, Pfizer), according to a study reported at this year’s American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Chicago. The study also found that combination therapy of taprenepag and latanoprost lowered patients’ IOP more effectively than monotherapy with either agent. However, EP2 agonists can yield more adverse side effects, such as photophobia, iritis and reduced visual acuity.
