For patients with visual impairment, trying to decipher text and images on a small smartphone screen can be challenging and frustrating, or simply impossible. Fortunately, many handheld and phone-mounted magnifiers exist as potential solutions for these patients. Today, Eschenbach introduced a new device to help those with vision loss—specifically iPhone users—see their screens better: a video magnifier.
The device, which the company calls Optaro, attaches to an iPhone in two distinct ways: through a custom-fit protective case, available for iPhone models from iPhone 12 onward, or via a magnetic universal stand, which the company says is suitable for almost every iPhone model.
The camera on the magnifier, located under the phone, communicates with the iPhone once the user downloads the free Optaro app, Eschenbach explained in the press release. The result is an enlarged image on the phone, with 3.3x to 15x magnification, that the company says is also high-contrast and evenly illuminated to reduce glare. Users also have the option to turn the LED illumination on or off and choose from 14 color modes.
Additional features of the video magnifier include an adjustable reading line or blinds, a read-aloud function and a customizable menu.
