Good news for practices that use the Spectralis OCT from Heidelberg: a software update will now give you access to a new glaucoma report that shuffles the order of the retinal nerve fiber layer graph from the conventional TSNIT sequence to a new NSTIN approach, placing the temporal quadrant in the center for easier viewing. “This portion of the disc is crucial for everyday visual function, and identification of abnormal thinning in this region is essential for managing glaucoma,” said Donald C. Hood, PhD, in a Heidelberg press release. The new report format is based on Dr. Hood’s diagnostic approach to glaucoma.
The company says the report also allows clinicians to visualize functional and structural measurements along with high-resolution OCT B-scans, and relate this information to 10-2 and 24-2 visual field points.
The Hood Glaucoma Report is part of the device’s Glaucoma Module Premium Edition, which also uses a positioning system to ensure all glaucoma scans are anatomically aligned with the reference database and account for the individual configuration of axons in each eye. The result, Heidelberg says, is increased precision and accuracy of results.
